According to US - F1/J1 Visa regulations, every International Student must file
a tax form #8843 (to Internal Revenue Service - IRS) regardless of not earning
any US income during the year 2016.

June 15th is the deadline for all the international students (who were present in USA
even for only one day and did not receive any USA income in the year 2016) to file their tax returns.

Alternatively, if you did earn income in the USA last year and you have been in USA less than
5 years, watch for future UCIE newsletter announcements for the “GTP” tax software access codes
and workshops.   This is a special software for international students which will be available beginning
in February to help you fulfill your tax filing obligations.   This GTP tax prep software will help you
prepare your tax return properly.   NOTE:  International students generally are NOT eligible to
use tax software (Turbo Tax, H&R Block, TaxACT, etc.) as these software products are
appropriate only for US citizens or permanent residents.

UCIE Tax workshops for completing the Form 8843 will be conducted
during the 1st and 2nd week of February 2017.
