"People with mental illness have the same
educational needs as you and me."
Formerly CEO of the Dayton Mental Health Center, Pat Torvik used her teaching skills, compassion, and knowledge gained from her Wright State courses in public school administration to help those with mental illnesses get the education they are often denied. "The concentration on the principles of administration served me well when I prepared to become a Certified Mental Health Administrator," Torvik says.
"After I finished my degrees, I came back to WSU to take additional classes. You could count on the quality of the classes and the support of the professors," she adds. Now retired, Torvik stays active as a Project READ tutor and certified master gardener. She's also past president of the Dayton area League of Women Voters.
Favorite WSU Memory: Jacob Dorn's American history class. I must have taken a history class almost every quarter.
Last Book Read: John Adams, David McCullough
Future Plans: Continue to volunteer with master gardeners and church, learn to speak French, build a greenhouse.
