"If you see a need, fill it."
At the same time Dianne Pettis needed a project to complete her nurse practitioner degree, fellow church members voiced a need for a healthy lifestyle class. Six years later, that first weight management class Pettis started at Maranatha Christian Fellowship has grown into a health and wellness ministry for church members and the surrounding community.
"The college of nursing's strong community orientation opened a lot of doors for me to do what I like to do, which is community health," Pettis says. She and other volunteer nurses provide health screenings, a speaker series, health fairs, wellness classes, and exercise support groups. "These are the kind of things you don't get paid for, but are the
most rewarding."

My graduation day. I had to change my thesis topic 10 weeks before graduation -- I had two years' worth of work to complete in two months!
