Feature Alum: Christine Moore-Goad

1972 B.S.Ed., 1994 M.Ed.
Curriculum Leader, Kettering City Schools, Kettering, Ohio

"When we share the joy of learning and self-discovery, we become closer and stronger as a family."

Christine Moore-Goad has been a first-class act in a third-grade classroom. A former National Teacher of the Year, she juggles math, science, and spelling with the interests of her 8-year-old students. Creator of the popular Family Centered Science Adventures, she's led students and their families through prairies in pursuit of monarch butterflies, hunted fossils, and created an inflatable planetarium to view constellations.

As an adjunct instructor at Wright State, Moore-Goad shares her successful methods with tomorrow's teachers. And her innovative style will set the bar for today's teachers, as she becomes Kettering's city school elementary curriculum leader for math and science.

Favorite WSU Memory: I was fortunate enough to work on my master's as part of a cohort group studying together for three years on-site in Kettering. I found that so rewarding, as well as convenient. I think that it is important for a local university to reach out and provide programs close at home that meet the needs of the students. That is exactly what Wright State did for me.

Best Advice: From my family... "Be a lifelong learner, enjoy challenges, and feel that goals can be set high and yet attained."
