Feature Alum: Alan McGee
1979 B.S., 1982 M.D.
Associate, SpineONE, a division of Orthopaedics Northeast, Ft. Wayne,
Ind.
"I want to help minority students pursue careers in health care."
While Alan McGee was an undergraduate student at Wright State University,
his medical career got off to a promising start when he published a
research project with WSU professor M. Paul Servé. As an undergraduate
and later as a medical student, McGee says "my professors allowed
me to think more independently and outside the box." Today, he
is an associate of SpineONE in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and part of a team dedicated
to the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders.
McGee also helps minority students succeed in health care careers through
two scholarships he established. One helps Ft. Wayne area students,
while the other, the Dewitt and Henria McGee Endowed Scholarship, named
after his parents, helps minority students complete their education
in WSU's School of Medicine.
Best Advice: "Pursue the career of your choice and don't
let obstacles get in the way."
