Since childhood, Deb Mals dreamed of being a light of hope and help for others. Nursing was her goal, but she hadn't planned on going into hospital
administration. "The support and encouragement I received from my Wright State University professors and other mentors inspired me to continue my
education," she says.
Today, as vice president of hospital operations and chief nursing officer at Miami Valley Hospital, she's responsible for the hospital's overall
nursing care and a number of other programs, including women's health care, the oncology program, behavioral services, and integrative care
management. "I think there's so much about the nursing process that applies to so many business situations," she says.
