Feature Alum: Jamie King

1980 B.S.B.
CEO, Crowe Manufacturing Services, Dayton, Ohio

"In order to be successful, you have to take risks."

Where some saw risk, Jamie King saw opportunity. In 1988, she tapped her life savings, took out a second mortgage, and borrowed $1 million to buy Crowe Manufacturing Services, a contract manufacturer that also makes valves and linkage assemblies. As CEO, she has tripled the number of employees to over 100, expanded its service line, and seen the company earn numerous quality awards from Fortune 500 companies.

"With the strong foundation in accounting I received at Wright State, I felt well prepared to succeed in the business. The faculty were very in-tuned to the needs of the region's business community. They stressed other skills as well that are needed to support a career. It's been from that base that I've been able to grow."

Favorite WSU Memory: The internship program in the accounting department. During the process, all interns and a professor would get together at a local restaurant every other week to talk about how it was going, and what we were learning. It was fun and helpful to listen to all the experiences everyone was having.

Best Advice: From my father... "It's important to build flexibility in a career."
