Feature Alum: Dorothy Fiorino
1980 M.S.N.
Director, Health Pro Network, Inc., Ohio Nurses Association, Columbus, Ohio
"The reason I stayed in nursing is the reason I got in it to begin with -- to make a difference in someone's life."
Being one of 10 nurses in Wright State's first graduate program in nursing was "a life-altering experience"
for Dorothy Fiorino. Her professors made such an impression on her that Fiorino has
committed herself to leaving her own mark on the
profession. "I get excited knowing that what I do will have
an impact on nursing," she says.
Fiorino has worn many hats in her career as a nurse --
as an administrator, public health nurse, pediatric
nurse, and as executive director of the Ohio Board of
Nursing. "One of the beauties of nursing is that it can
be multiple careers," she says. Postponing
retirement, she now directs Health Pro Network, the
profit-making arm of the Ohio Nurses Association, the
largest association for professional nurses in the state.
Favorite WSU Memory:
When I was chosen from among 250 applicants as one of 10 in the School of Nursing's charter class for its new graduate program. Being in that program was a
life-altering experience.
Best Advice:
"Don't overstay your welcome."
Future Plans:
I'd love to say I'd be able to really retire, but who knows in this world today. Nurses never stop
practicing nursing.
