Feature Alum: James Cannon
1973 B.A., 1974 M.S.
Municipal Court Judge, Dayton, Ohio
"I wouldn't be where I am today without Wright State."
When opportunity comes knocking, education opens the door, says the Honorable James Cannon. One of nine children, Cannon never had a chance to go to college until he retired from the military at the age of 39.
That's when he enrolled at Wright State, where in four years he earned both his
bachelor's and master's degrees. That feat opened the door to law school and
later, a seat on Dayton's Municipal Court, where he has served as judge since 1987.
"I was an older student, but that didn't bother anyone. There were students of all ages," he says.
"Wright State provided the opportunity to get started on my education and prepared me to take advantage
of opportunities that came along."
