Maintenance Being Performed
Unless otherwise noted, all registrar-scheduled electronic classrooms and computer labs will undergo the following changes:
- Routine reimaging of electronic classrooms and computer labs with an updated Windows 10 image.
- SSD installations in student computer lab machines will allow for quicker login times. This project was completed in Summer 2019. Read more about this maintenance here.
Installation of Solid State Drives (SSDs)
CaTS has been installing solid state drives in computer labs to significantly reduce login/boot-up times. Times have been reduced from 4+ minutes to 2 minutes or less with these updates.
Training Options
If you would like to receive training on equipment installed in your classroom, send an email to cats-training@wright.edu and a CaTS training representative will respond.
All classroom maintenance will be completed by August 16. All classrooms and computer labs will be open for testing between August 19–23 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. If you would like access to a specific classroom before August 19, call the CaTS Help Desk at 937-775-4827 to request access.
Classroom and Computer Lab Maintenance Schedule
The routine imaging schedule is subject to change. If you have any questions, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at 937-775-4827, or email helpdesk@wright.edu.
Mac Mini to Dell 5050 Transition
All nstructor workstations with Mac Mini computers have been replaced with Dell 5050 Windows PCs. See the Reminders section below for more information about these systems. We realize this change could be a concern for Mac users, so we have listed several alternatives for you in the Preferred Options for Mac Users section below.
Reminders
- All electronic classrooms are now running Windows 10. There will no longer be an option to run a Mac OS from the instructor workstation unless using one of the options mentioned below.
- The power button is now located on the Dell 5050 under the workstation (pictured below).
- USB ports are now located on the rack under the workstation (pictured below).

Preferred Options for Mac Users
The Dell 5050s currently installed in your classroom is able to access the majority of services, apps, programs, and websites that you would need for your classes. However, CaTS realizes some users prefer Macs; below are preferred alternatives for those who still need to use a Mac in the classroom.
For Mac Users Using a USB Drive
CaTS highly recommends putting your classroom materials into Pilot to access during your class. However, if you will be using a USB drive, test all of your course content to make sure it's formatted correctly in Windows 10. If you need assistance testing your course material, call the CaTS Help Desk at 937-775-4827.
Apple TV
Using an Apple TV gives Mac users the ability to use their own devices in the classroom. The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) can provide training on how to effectively incorporate the use of Apple TVs in your course.
