Wireless Network Issues Resolved

Thursday, February 9, 2017

Recent connection issues with the university’s wireless network have been resolved. If you are still experiencing problems with the wireless network, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827.

Wireless Connectivity Issues

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

CaTS is aware of intermittent connectivity issues with the wireless network. Devices are taking longer than normal to connect to the wireless access points. When attempting to connect to the wireless network on campus, please allow a few moments for your device to try the connection. You can also try disconnecting your device or computer from the network and reconnecting, although this may also take several attempts.

CaTS is working on a resolution to this problem and will notify the university when it is resolved. For further questions, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827.

Security Reminder: Fake Job Offers

Thursday, February 2, 2017

Recently Wright State students have been the target of email scams containing fake job offers. Below are tips to help recognize these phishing attempts:

  • If an email is difficult to read (poor grammar or wording), it is most likely a scam.
  • If a job offer seems too good to be true, it most likely is.
  • Never accept a job that requires you to deposit checks into your own account, or wire a portion of money from your account.
  • Read any career offer carefully.
  • Banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions will never ask for your account information in an email.
  • If you think you have been a target of a phishing scam, file a report with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint center here: https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Single Sign-on for Wright State Email

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Beginning Sunday, January 29, your Wright State Office 365 email will become a part of our Single Sign-on (SSO) service. This change is planned for the 5:00 - 6:00 a.m. hour, so you may experience connectivity issues with your email during this time.

Once this change happens, a different log in screen will appear if you access your email through the outlook.wright.edu website. This new screen will be identical to the current WINGS log in screen. If you use other methods to access your email (WINGS, Outlook or Mac Mail clients, mobile phone apps), you will not notice a difference.

WHAT IS SSO?

The Single Sign-on (SSO) service makes it possible to log in to multiple Wright State online applications without re-entering your campus 'w' username and password each time. For more information about SSO, visit https://www.wright.edu/information-technology/services/single-sign-on.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?

After logging in to a Wright State site using SSO, you'll be able to access other SSO-enabled sites during the same browser session without logging in again. For email specifically, here's what you'll see:

  • When logging in to your email through outlook.wright.edu, the log in screen will be identical to the screen you see when accessing WINGS.
  • When logging in to your email through WINGS, the Outlook Client, or mobile applications, you will not notice a difference,

FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS:

CaTS has been working towards a full Single Sign-on service/system. As other services are transitioned, users will be able to sign into other online applications using one account. This allows for a smoother, simplified process when accessing different university services.

QUESTIONS:

For questions about Single Sign-on, contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or email helpdesk@wright.edu.

Reminder: CaTS System Maintenance for 12/4/16

Thursday, December 1, 2016

As a reminder, CaTS will be replacing the Main Campus production firewall on Sunday, December 4, from 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. During this time network access will be unavailable, along with all University systems such as WINGS, WINGS Express, Banner, etc. The wright.edu websites will be available to off campus users.

This firewall replacement will provide campus with the needed capacity to cope with growing network bandwidth requirements, as well as allowing for the consolidation of security appliances into a single platform.

For questions about this maintenance, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.
