Avoiding Plagiarism

Classic WINGS to be Shutdown

On December 8, Classic WINGS will be retired and no longer available to the Wright State community.

Course and Group Studio will no longer be available.

  • Please download any data you need from your courses/groups prior to December 8.
  • If you need data from Classic WINGS portal after December 8, please contact the CaTS Help Desk.

CaTS has also made more updates to the new WINGS portal:

  • Access to Workflow will no longer require re-entering your username and password if you are already logged into WINGS (effective after December 8).

Learn About Phishing Scams

CaTS has noticed an increase in the number of phishing attempts targeting Wright State faculty, staff and students.

What are phishing scams?

  • Phishing scams are emails designed to trick you into sending an unknown third party your account information or other personal or financial information.
  • These emails may look like they’re coming from Wright State, CaTS, your bank or credit card issuer, or any other institution you do business with.

How can you avoid phishing scams?

  • Remember that CaTS, WSU, and other reputable businesses WILL NEVER ask you for any personal information, such as your username and password, via email.
  • Never respond to a suspicious email or click links in those emails.
  • Don’t give out your personal information to anyone via email.
  • Don’t download attachments from an email unless you trust the sender.

Phishing Scam Notice 12/1/15

The Help Desk was recently notified of an email phishing scam that targets Wright State students, faculty, and staff. The email contains a message like the one shown below, along with an attachment. DO NOT download the attachment!

UKMail Info!

Your parcel has not been delivered to your address November 23, 2015, because nobody was at home. Please view the information about your parcel, print it and go to the post office to receive your package.


UKMail expressly disclaims all conditions, guarantees and warranties, express or implied, in respect of the Service. Where the law prevents such exclusion and implies conditions and warranties into this contract, where legally permissible the liability of UKMail for breach of such condition, guarantee or warranty is limited at the option of UKMail to either supplying the Service again or paying the cost of having the service supplied again.
If you don't receive a package within 30 working days UKMail will charge you for it's keeping. You can find any information about the procedure and conditions of parcel keeping in the nearest post office.

How to Change Your Passwords

To make the most of your Wright State accounts, it's important to know how to update your information. Here's a reminder of you different Wright State accounts, their uses, and how to change your passwords.

This page gives information about the three accounts that are in use at Wright State. If you need further assistance with your account information, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or send an email to

On this page:

University ID (UID)

Format of Account: 9 digits; Begins with "U", followed by 8 numbers. Example: U01234567

Used For: The UID, along with your PIN, is used to access the WINGS Express system for academic services (class registration, viewing grades, viewing financial aid information, etc.). You also use this to register for new student orientation.

PIN Expiration: Once you change the PIN for your UID, the PIN never expires. You will only need to change it if you forget it.

How to Change Your PIN:

  1. Go to
  2. Enter your UID and click 'Forgot PIN?'
  3. Answer your security questions
  4. Enter your new PIN and click 'Reset PIN' (see below for PIN requirements)

Changing Your Password

Your Campus and Office 365 Accounts share the same password.

  1. Login to the WINGS website.
  2. Click on the Change Password button in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your current password.
  4. Enter and confirm your new password, making sure to follow the requirements listed at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click the Submit button.

Change the Password on Mobile Device Email Apps

To ensure you don't get locked out of your email, you'll need to change the password in any email app on your mobile device to match your new password. As there are numerous email apps available, these instructions focus on the built in mail apps for iOS and Android devices. If you need assistance with changing the password for your email app, contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827.

iOS Devices
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap the account name for your Wright State email account.
  4. Tap Account at the top of the screen.
  5. In the Password field, remove your current password.
  6. Enter your new password.
  7. Tap Done.

Android Devices

 For Android devices, note that you may see different options based on the operating system version you are using.

  1. Go in to your Email app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select your Wright State email account.
  4. Go to Incoming Settings.
  5. Enter your new password.
  6. Save your changes.

Change the Password for "WSU-Secure" Wireless Network

If you have used the "WSU-Secure" wireless network on Wright State's campus, you must change the password for the connection so you don't get locked out of your account. Most mobile devices will prompt you automatically to enter your password, but if you particular device does not, here are instructions for both iOS and Android devices.

iOS Devices
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap WSU-Secure.
  4. Tap Forget This Network.
  5. Tap Forget.
  6. Tap W-Fi in the top left.
  7. Allow your device to scan for wireless networks.
  8. Tap WSU-Secure again.
  9. Enter your campus "w" username.
  10. Enter your new password.
  11. Tap Join.
  12. If asked, accept the authentication certificate.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi..
  3. Select WSU-Secure Wireless Network.
  4. Tap Forget.

  6. Enter your new password.

Alumni and Retiree Account Information

Alumni, retirees, and emeritus faculty have the option to continue use of their Wright State account for access to WINGS and Office 365 services (email, calendar, etc.). For specific information on each role, see below.


Graduates of Wright State automatically receive an additional 5 years of email access upon graduation. Once the initial 5 year period has expired, a warning message will be sent to the student's Wright State email account. This email lets the student know the account is ready to expire, and if needed, an additional 5 years can be requested through the following form:


In order to receive continued access, retirees must request this access upon retirement. Initial access is for 5 years, with an option to renew for an additional 5. To request this access, visit the following form:

Emeritus Faculty

In order to receive continued access, faculty should request emeritus status through the Provost Office and use the following form to request account access through CaTS. Initial access is for 5 years. Once the initial 5 year period has expired, a warning message will be sent to the faculty's Wright State email account. This email lets the faculty know the account is ready to expire, and if needed, an additional 5 years can be requested through the following form:

 Important Account Information

  • Due to FERPA federal regulations, CaTS is unable to assist parents or legal guardians with logging in to or resetting the password of a student's account. If there is a problem with the account, the student will need to call or stop by the CaTS Help Desk for further assistance.
  • By using your WSU campus account, you assume full responsibility for all activity associated with the account. To avoid potential trouble, do not share your password with anyone.
  • Completely log out of a computer in the labs before you walk away. Failure to do so leaves your computer account open to tampering and improper use that you may be held responsible for.
  • Personal computers connecting to the Wright State network must meet the minimum standards for security of Wright State University networked devices.
  • Your Wright State account is for educational use, not financial gain. It should not be used for commercial purposes.
  • Report any trouble, such as harassment or strange emails, to the Help Desk.

WINGS Express PIN Requirements

When changing your WINGS Express PIN, please keep the following in mind:

  • The PIN length must be 8 to 14 characters.
  • The PIN must contain a letter.
  • The PIN must contain at least one of these numbers:0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
  • Do NOT use names or common words in the dictionary.
  • Do NOT use the following symbols % # . @ !
  • You can not use a PIN that you have used in the last 365 days.
