Major General Gary T. Mccoy
 
Senior Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Defense Studies and Education (IDSE), Wright State University, Dayton Ohio.

Gary T. McCoy (Major General, USAF-Retired) is the Senior Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Defense Studies and Education (IDSE), Wright State University, Dayton Ohio. In this valuable role, he provides advice, guidance, and support to the Director in executing the IDSE mission of delivering state-of-the art programs and courses to leaders in the military services, government agencies, and commercial industry. He is responsible for course development, marketing, and sourcing expert speakers in multiple disciplines to include supply chain management, cyber security, and the psychology of terrorism.

Having served his Nation for over 35 years, General McCoy retired from the United States Air Force on 1 October 2011.  He culminated a long and distinguished career as Commander, Air Force Global Logistics Support Center, Scott Air Force Base, IL.  He had the responsibility for executing the Air Force supply chain by integrating enterprise-wide planning and

strategy with global command and control serving as the single focal point to the warfighter.

A South Carolina native, General McCoy was commissioned through Officer Training School and served in a variety of command and staff assignments. A career logistics officer, he commanded a supply squadron and a logistics group, and he served staff tours at both major command and Air Staff levels. He served as a deputy program manager, a joint duty officer with the Defense Logistics Agency and an air logistics center product director. In his final Pentagon assignment, General McCoy served as the Director of Logistics Readiness, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Installations and Mission Support, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

In addition to his key role with Wright State University, General McCoy is the President and Chief Executive Officer of his newly established company:  GTM Global Solutions, LLC, a logistics and management consulting firm.  He consults for small business firms, a major government support company, and commercial activities.

General McCoy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Culver-Stockton College, Missouri and a Master of Arts degree in human resources management, University of Redlands, California.  His professional military education includes:  Squadron Officer School;  Marine Corps Command and Staff College (correspondence); Air Command and Staff College; National Security Management Program (correspondence);  Armed Forces Staff College, Joint and Combined Staff Officer School; Air War College; Program for Executives in Logistics and Technology, Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina; and Program for Senior Managers in Government, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

His major military awards and decorations include:  The Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster; Bronze Star Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with silver and bronze oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster and many other decorations. His has received special recognition throughout his career.  He was the 1978 USAF Supply Junior Officer of the Year, 1992 USAFE Senior Supply Manager of the Year, 2001 Maj. Gen. Thomas H. Chapman Product Director of the Year, and was awarded the Defense Logistics 2011 Logistics Lifetime Achievement Award.
