Job Classifications
 

Q:  What is the difference between a classified and an unclassified employee?
A:  Classified employees are non-exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act, and their jobs are civil service protected as defined by the Ohio Revised Code.  Unclassified employees are at will employees who serve at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority and may be exempt or non-exempt.  Chapter 124.11 of the Ohio Revised Code defines both classified and unclassified employees.

Q:  Can I have my position reviewed to see if it should be upgraded?
A:  Classified employees may request a Job Audit through the Department of Human Resources.  Employees who disagree with the results of their Job Audit may appeal those results to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources with additional clarification and/or information and, if still dissatisfied, to the State Personnel Board of Review.  Unclassified employees may request a job review through the Department of Human Resources.  Employees who disagree with the results of an unclassified job review may be appeal those results through the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources to the Provost.
