Education and Experience:
Doctoral
degree; National/International recognition in areas relevant to the research
within the Lifespan Health Research Center, including, but not limited to,
population-based research, including the epidemiology and genetics of
cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, growth and body composition, obesity,
endocrinology, osteoporosis, gerontology and nutrition; an outstanding record of
peer-reviewed publications; extensive record of sustained, greater than five
years, and substantial extramural grant support at the NIH level (as
Principal Investigator of R01 or equivalent grants) with current or recent
funding (within the past two years); at least two years administrative
experience in a biomedical research department/center/division or equivalent;
experience in research grant, division and/or departmental budget management;
excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; Eligible for
appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor within the
Boonshoft School of Medicine. The faculty appointment will be made in the
Department of Community Health at the level commensurate with qualifications.
Preferred: Current funded research
program that is consistent with the overall mission of the Center. At least two
years experience as Director (or Assistant/Associate Director) in a biomedical
research department/center/division or equivalent.
Position Description:
Working through the Department Chair and Dean of the
School of Medicine: Provide general and daily administrative oversight of
the Lifespan Health Research Center. Provide leadership, through short term
planning and strategic planning, to plan implementation of grant proposals,
faculty development and scientific staff development and scientific staff
development, and to set the direction of the Center. Review and approve requests
for authorization to seek extramural funding; assure availability of adequate
space, personnel and resources, to accomplish proposed research is consistent
with the overall goals and mission of the Center. Provide general guidance and
oversight of faculty and coordination of faculty activities within the Center to
promote the accomplishment of the overall research mission of the Center.
Promote independent thought and creativity, as well as collaboration, among the
faculty and scientist within the Center. Provide oversight of all personnel
matters in the Center, including the hiring of new faculty, scientific staff and
support staff. Provide oversight and responsibility for the finances of the
Center. Assist investigators in the management of their grants and development
accounts. Provide oversight of the Director's development account and the
Center's account held by Wright State Physicians.
Serve as principal investigator and personally conduct
independent and collaborative research programs within the Center that enhance
the mission of the Center, and attract significant extramural support for the
Center.
Develop and cultivate new collaborations, new direction
for research activities and programs for the Center; forming linkages with other
investigators and departments within the Boonshoft School of Medicine, the
University and the scientific community, with specific emphasis on obtaining
large Center grants and grants that build and promote the theme of
interdisciplinary research of the NIH Roadmap.
Participate in, and engage other members of the Center, in
the educational mission of the Boonshoft School of Medicine and the Department
of Community Health, and in other departmental activities, as requested from
time to time, by the department chair.
