Education and Experience:   Bachelor's degree (computer science, information science, management, engineering or related field preferred), experience working with Banner (or other similar information system) and 4-7 years full-time work experience in a higher education or similar setting. Demonstrated competence using Excel and Access or PL/SQL and analysis of output to leverage resources. Proven record of successfully managing multiple priorities, supervising a high performing team and diplomacy in problem resolution. Hands-on experience with course and class scheduling, room scheduling, optimization and analysis and analysis of space, Excel, Access, MS Word and with other testing and load generating tools. Demonstrated initiative, ability to motivate staff, resolve conflicts for long-term solutions, and manage resources effectively. Demonstrated strong organizational ability, attention to detail, and follow-up to successful completion.

Preferred:  Master's degree; prior experience using Banner Course and Class Scheduling software, Ad Astra or similar room scheduling and modeling software; work experience in registrar's or other student service office with high contact with faculty and academic administrators; course and room scheduling experience; and project management training or experience.

Working Conditions: Generally normal 8:30- 5:00 office conditions. Ability to work overtime as needed. Ability to tour university buildings/classrooms.


Position Description:  

Manage the operations of the Course Catalogue, Course Scheduling and Room Scheduling unit in the Registrar's Office always with the value of high campus satisfaction and efficient use of resources. Supervise Scheduling Supervisor to assure course, class and room scheduling is accurate, timely and consistent with university and office policies. Supervise allocation of university classroom resources following appropriate policies and procedures and assure effective use of classroom resources using a "best fit" model. Analyze the efficiency of resource utilization using Ad Astra and other tools on an on-going basis. Develop, recommend and implement new processes and/or policies to maximize classroom utilization and campus satisfaction to improve the efficiency of the course inventory and course scheduling process. Initiate and lead twice/year campus tours to identify classroom needs (i.e., maintenance, custodial, renovation, special academic needs, etc.). Assure timely resolution of identified needs with campus departments, external vendors and others as necessary. Maintain files related to classroom tours and improvements for reporting purposes.

Manage appropriate use of the catalogue and schedule components of the Banner Student Module. Develop training documentation as it relates to both scheduling staff and to the campus community's ability to use Banner in the catalogue and course and room scheduling areas. Lead the post-implementation use of the optimization process of Ad Astra to maximize efficient course scheduling as well as classroom utilization and data reporting. Write queries using Oracle PL/SQL or Access to support course/classroom scheduling process and maintain the integrity of course, class schedule, room schedule and other related data Create and analyze data reports on course offerings and class resource utilization and report information to University Registrar, University Classroom of the Future Committee and others as requested. Advise on class resource needs, including space and technology; initiate proposals for course and classroom scheduling changes using analytic tools.  

Manage the course inventory process for all Colleges and Departments/ Consult with Chair, Undergraduate Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee and Dean/staff of the School of Graduate Studies to insure proper approval of all changes. Assist CATS, Facilities Planning and Development and Budget Planning and Resource Analysis in identifying and interpreting enrollment and related data to support reporting needs for OBR and other University internal and external information requirements.

Attend campus and external meetings representing the University Registrar. Assist with residency determination process, student registration and records and other registrar duties as required. Support technology needs in other office units as required, including web support. Maintain continued operations of the office in the absence of the University Registrar and other Associate Registrars.
