Must possess a bachelor's degree. The selected candidate must have excellent communications skills. Outstanding leadership and managerial abilities including organization and planning skills. This individual must have a collaborative and collegial style with the ability and willingness to work as a member of a team and to foster a team environment within the Department. Must have the background and experience, as well as the proven skills, to generate the respect and trust of staff and senior administration and the support of the campus community. Skilled in developing strong community relations. Possess the ability to work effectively within the culture of the University and the surrounding areas, and sensitivity to diversity issues. Must have demonstrated skills in law enforcement administration, police procedures, personnel development, crowd management and control, and policy development. Must possess an independent, self-sufficient style. Should be a self-motivated problem solver. Must have a strong service orientation and be student centered and sensitive to issues involving residential students. This is a sworn position. All applicants must have graduated from a P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified police academy, possess a current police officer certification and must obtain an Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification within 6 months of hire date. Must possess a current and valid drivers license, will be required to obtain an Ohio Drivers License at time of hire and be insurable with the University's insurance carrier. Preferred: A masters degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, labor management and labor relations or a directly related field. Working Conditions: Hazardous working conditions, exposed to inclement weather, potential of bodily harm in criminal investigations, and other fire and public safety conditions. Emergency response is an integral part of this position; extended periods of time on foot during special events, work hours may be spent outdoors during inclement weather, large amount of time spent in crowd situations with potential for exposure to communicable diseases. Interpersonal contacts with individuals within or outside of the department regularly create unexpected and immediate demands, which require establishing new priorities and the performance of several substantially, unrelated tasks simultaneously. Punctuality is required. Required to work with law enforcement, security, fire and fire rescue personnel at major large scale or sensitive events, including but not limited to student social events, major concerts, conferences and sports events. Job responsibilities may require work during day, afternoon, evening, night or weekend hours. The position may require travel with Nutter Center staff to advance events at other venues. A flexible work schedule is required for this position. Position Description: Support Services Events Operations: 1. Plan, coordinate and lead all support services operations; supervise police officers, communications center operators and security staff assigned to support services events. Will physically monitor major and high profile events at the Nutter Center and on main campus as determined by the Assistant Chief of Police for Administration. 2. Prepare policies and operational orders relating to relevant issues for special events. 3. Prepare event itineraries and related event documents. Schedule personnel and initiate overtime requests for staffing of law enforcement, security, and fire personnel working events. 4. Perform routine and non-routine administrative duties, i.e. prepare and review all records for billing support services and student sponsored social events. 5. Certify and complete payroll; including overtime calculations, related to support services events. Compile after action reports. 6. Develop, coordinate and implement ongoing training for law enforcement officers and security personnel for support services events. 7. Respond to inquires, requests, and complaints related to support services and provide assistance to the Assistant Chief of Police in initiating informal, formal and internal affairs investigations as they relate to support services. Campus Oriented Community Policing Responsibilities and Initiatives: 1. Provide leadership for campus oriented community policing initiatives and supervision for officers assigned to campus oriented community policing responsibilities. 2. Establish and promote positive working relationships with department personnel, department directors, community officials and other police, fire and emergency response agencies and the courts. 3. Represent the WSU Police Department on the Social Events Task Force Committee or other committees as determined by the Assistant Chief of Police for Administration. 4. Perform patrol operations duties and provide supervision and leadership to patrol staff as required by employee absences or unique circumstances. Administrative Responsibilities: 1. Participate in department recruitment, selection and retention initiatives. 2. Evaluate performance of staff, investigate complains and institute disciplinary action as appropriate. 3. Attend meetings, to include Nutter Center staff meetings and planning meetings, special event pre-show meetings, pre-event meetings for Student Activities and maintain contact with other universities, other university departments, law enforcement and emergency management agencies. 4. Perform other duties or special projects as assigned. Emergency Management: 1. Monitor and maintain relationships relating to the specialized use of the Nutter Center as a Mega-Shelter, Red Cross Shelter, Immunization location, or other such specialized use of the facility as requested by governmental agencies. 2. Required to receive critical incident, trigger offense and media worthy notifications and to forward notifications utilizing the department and university communications plan.
