Position Summary:   To live in the Honors Residence Hall and to serve as a role model and mentor to Honors Students living in the Honors Residence Hall. To collaborate with Residence Services and the University Honors Program and to provide and develop appropriate programming and service projects to Honors Students living in the Honors Residence Hall.

Education and Experience:     Fully-affiliated faculty; minimum two years successful teaching experience; successful teaching experience with first year students; demonstrated experience teaching outside the traditional classroom setting; high energy level, enthusiastic teacher who relates well to students; willingness to give 2 year minimum commitment to position.

Working Conditions: Required to live in the Honors Residence Hall. The use of the apartment will be year-round, though the term of employment is for the nine-month academic year. Singles, couples, and parents with children are eligible for appointment, but no pets allowed, (except service Animals). Evening, weekend, and holiday work required.

Note: Length of appointment is 2 years. Compensation includes a rent-free two bedroom apartment in the complex, including free utilities, internet access, local phone and basic cable; a one course reduction per quarter; and a furnished office and computer in the Honors Residence Hall.


Position Description:  

Support the academic success of students:

  • Teach regularly in the Honors Residence Hall classroom
  • Act as role model
  • Serve as mentor
  • Facilitate the formation of study groups
  • Establish a climate conducive to the life of the mind
  • Maintain availability in the Honors Residence Hall and hold regular hours in the complex (3-5 hours per week)
  • Administer Faculty in Residence Programming budget ($600.00 per quarter from Residence Services)
  • Participate in recruiting and orientation

Community advocacy:

  • Encourage other faculty to become involved with the community
  • Work with Honors and Residence Life staff on all aspects of community development and management
  • Represent the Honors Residence Hall to the entire university community and to the larger metropolitan community
  • Participate in fund -raising as appropriate
  • Meet with Community Director and Resident Assistant staff on a regular basis and meet quarterly with the Associate Director of Residence Services
  • Attend Honors Residence Hall Committee meetings

Assist Community Director and Resident Assistants with the following:

  • Support programming that emphasizes diversity, respect, and inclusion
  • Encourage involvement in campus cultural and intellectual activities
  • Arrange off-campus outings for cultural events (occasional weekends)
  • Plan for and participate in community service projects
  • Provide appropriate personal counseling, referring when necessary
  • Work  with residents to develop community governance
  • Foster residents' involvement in campus-wide governance
