Education and Experience:   Bachelor’s degree; minimum 5-7 years demonstrated professional experience in Web design and development, including site architecture, graphics, and layout; ability to write HTML documents from scratch; skill in creating graphics for the Web using software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; experience with HTML editors like DreamWeaver and Contribute; good understanding of cross-platform/-browser compatibility issues and limitations; demonstrated knowledge of Web accessibility and usability standards; excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to lead team projects and to work successfully on collaborative efforts; good time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and establish priorities; experience supervising staff; good client relationship management skills; experience using Flash, streaming video, Web-based multimedia; understanding of search engine optimization and interactive direct marketing.

Preferred: Experience working in a large complex organization or higher education.


Position Description:  

Provide institutional leadership and advise university faculty and staff regarding effective and appropriate use of university's web site.

Supervise the Communications and Marketing web team consisting of a web programmer, a graphic designer and a coordinator/editor.

Design and build accessible web pages and web graphics using a variety of software, techniques and tools to provide a positive, consistent and inviting image of the university that is effective in communicating with both internal and external audiences.

Develop university web design guidelines, graphics and templates that are consistent with existing marketing campaigns and branding initiatives. Work with university web coordinators and information providers throughout the university to ensure consistency, accuracy, accessibility and ease of navigation throughout the WSU web site.

Carry out web initiatives that complement and integrate with university marketing goals and strategies, including coordination of interactive direct mail.

Work with administrative departments, including the Bursar, Registrar, Financial Aid and CaTS, as well as Enrollment Management and Student Retention teams to develop direct marketing campaigns that communicate with specific student segments to address individual campaign objectives for enrollment and retention.

Work with CaTS, the Banner Implementation team, the Registrar, Bursar, and the academic areas to identify student-centered and user-friendly web navigation strategies that help students transition to effective and easy use of the Banner system.
