Selecting an OPERS Plan
A number of Wright State University staff members have the option
to elect one of three Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS)
plans because of changes made in the OPERS system effective January
1, 2003. WSU employees who are eligible to elect one of the three
OPERS plans are:
- Staff employees who are not current OPERS members who have been
employed by WSU after December 31, 2003.
The deadline for electing one of the three OPERS plans is 180 days
after being employed.
The three plan options are significantly different. The options
are the OPERS Traditional Pension Plan (a defined benefit plan),
the OPERS Member-Directed Plan (a defined contribution plan) and
the OPERS Combined Plan (a plan which combines some of the features
of each of the Traditional Pension Plan and the Member-Directed
Plan).
Further questions about making this election can be directed to
Rich Johnson, Employee Benefits Manager, at 775-2567.
