FA Process

File FAFSA

To initiate the financial aid award process, the student must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA form must be completed every year with updated federal tax information, and can be submitted as early as January 1st, prior to the start of the upcoming aid year. Wright State University's priority deadline date for submitting the FAFSA is February 15th. The priority deadline date is used in determining your eligibility for federal campus-based funds [Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study, and Federal Nursing Student Loan]. A student will not be notified about financial aid unless a FAFSA form is filed.

Submitting a FAFSA is a free process. File your FAFSA online at FAFSA on the Web. Do not pay to have an agency file your FAFSA for you. If you have questions regarding the FAFSA contact our office for assistance, or call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243.

A student and/or parent(s) can used estimated tax information if taxes have not been filed to complete the form, however, the processing center recommends updating the FAFSA when taxes are filed. Do not leave any blanks on the FAFSA; if there is not an amount to be reported place a zero in the appropriate field.

Using the student's accurate social security number on the form is very important, if the social security number is reported incorrectly the processing of aid is halted until the issue can be cleared with the federal processing center, which may take two or more weeks.

WSU's federal school code is 003078. WSU's name and address are not required.

After a student has filed the FAFSA once, a Renewal FAFSA can be filed for the following years. On a Renewal FAFSA, the student must simply update the tax information.

To sign a FAFSA, file a Renewal FAFSA, or to make corrections online, a student will use a Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you have not received a PIN, a PIN can be requested online at the Pin Registration Web Page. To file electronically without a PIN, a signature page must be printed and mailed to the U.S. Department of Education.

Keep copies of all forms you complete including the FAFSA and federal tax returns. Responding to any requests for additional information promptly will avoid any delays in the processing of financial assistance.
