Working Smoke Detectors Save Lives

Change your Clock - Change your Battery!

The time change for "fall back" is nearly upon us!

Changing our clocks remind us to change out the alkaline batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Some facts many consumers may not know are:
  • Your home should contain two different types of smoke detectors, if possible.
  • Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years!
  • Smoke detectors are recyclable!  Check here to see what brands accept old detectors.

What other facts are there to know?
  • Click here for more information, including special detectors for people who are hard of hearing or deaf
  • Detailed information from the National Fire Protection Association can be found by clicking here.
  • What to do with the old batteries?  Recycle them at Wright State of course!  Bring your used batteries to the Department of Environmental Health & Safety. We're located in BioScience 2, Room 047.
