WeEXCEL Academies
for Teachers of Science and Mathematics
Funded by the Math Science Partnership Program of the Ohio Department of Education
We have not yet received funding in order to run these one-week Math and Science Academies.
Please note that the only programs that we currently have OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
are the three-week SCIENCE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMS.
• The courses are FREE! There is no cost to you or your district!
• You will receive a stipend and certificate of contact hours completed!
• Optional FREE graduate credit, which could count towards a degree, is available.(Check with your advisor at Wright State University or University of Dayton)!
• Dayton Regional STEMM Center curricula related to industry/research topics will be
included in the courses!

If you are interested in taking one of our courses and the registration deadline has passed, if the course is not full you may still register for a $25 late registration fee.

If you have registered for a course and want to drop the course after the registration deadline, there is a $50 administration fee.
Participants
- Math and science teachers from grades K-12
Primary Goals
- To develop content and pedagogical understanding of the key standards of existing and new academy modules for grades 2-12 science and mathematics teachers.
- To develop teacher abilities to continually improve teaching practices through a cyclical process of analyzing student achievement data with respect to attaining the standards, revising curricular, instructional, and assessment practices, and evaluating the results for further modifications.
- To improve student achievement of key indicators for which professional development is provided.
- To further develop the partnership to promote and sustain improvements in science and mathematics education through shared analysis of student achievement data and subsequent collaborative planning for teacher professional development.
- 80 contact hours for new participants
Professional Development Components 2008-2009
- 12 academies, including summer academies and academic year follow-ups.
- Rigorous evaluation of teacher content and pedagogical knowledge and student achievement gains.
- Administrator workshops.
