Science Enhancement Programs

Benefits to Our Programs
- The courses are FREE! There is no cost to you or your district!
- Receive a stipend for full participation in the summer program.
- Receive certificates for contact hours completed.
- Receive at least $250 in free classroom equipment.
- Receive FREE graduate credit which could count toward a degree (check with your advisor).
- Work with colleagues from your district and from your school, so you'll have the opportunity to really coordinate efforts!
Primary Goals
- To enhance teacher content and pedagogical content knowledge of the grades 5-12 topics of the Ohio Math and Science Models
- To enhance teacher understanding of effective use of technology in teaching
- To enhance math and science teacher coordination and to enhance teacher understanding of integration of science and mathematices
- To enhance teacher understanding of using student assessment data in improving practice
- To enhance principal understanding of classroom environments needed to support effective teaching and student achievement
Program Hours:
June 13-16; June 20-23; June 27-30 (12 days)
All programs will run Monday - Thursday, 8:45am to 4:00pm.
Each day, participants will receive a lunch break. Meals are not provided, however there are food options located both on and off campus within a short distance.
Follow-Up:
During the following academic year, support faculty will visit your classroom several times (see class description) to help with implementation and assessment of activities. Additionally, there will be one after school session and two release days (grant will cover the cost of a substitute for each researse day, up to $85 per day) with the other participants in your district to assess student achievement and curricula, and to help coordinate efforts between teachers. Participants must complete the follow-up in order to received a stipend.
Stipends:
$390 for full participation in an Enhancement Program. Full participation requires attendance to all sessions and a satisfactory grade, equivalent to C or better, in the program and all subsequent follow-up sessions. No stipend or partial stipend will be issued if the above conditions are not satisfied. Stipends will be awarded at the end of the completion of the entire program.
Graduate Credit:
Participants will receive 4 graduate quarter credit hours from Wright State University (in the profession development subject area) for full participation in one Enhancement Program. Additionally, participants will receive 3 graduate quarter credit hours from Wright State University (in Education) for full participation in the follow-up.
Free Classroom Equipment:
For full participation in the enhancement program, participants will receive $250 in classroom equipment. Schools with large percentages of teachers participating in the program could receive additional classroom supplies to support implementing the units developed- up to $100 more for each teacher in the group.*

Deposit:
A $75 refundable deposit is required to ensure your space in the program. Your deposit will be returned to you upon completion of the summer component of the program. Upon initial acceptance of your application, you will be given further instructions on where to send your deposit check. Your spot is not guarenteed until your depost it received.
*If you fail to meet the requirements of the course, your deposit will not be returned to you, and it will be cashed.
