Join WSURA for lunch & a Woodland Cemetery tour

Woodland Cemetery Admin BuildingThe WSU Retirees Association invites you to join us for lunch on Monday, Oct. 4, on the outside patio of Jimmie’s Ladder 11 on Brown Street followed by a walking historical tour of Woodland Cemetery. You are welcome to attend one or both events.

Lunch at Jimmie’s Ladder 11

Meet at Jimmie’s Ladder 11, 936 Brown Street, for lunch on their outside patio at 11:30 a.m. The restaurant in a restored 1892 firehouse turned folksy-chic tavern offers a diverse menu of sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and appetizers, including vegetarian and vegan options. Following lunch, those who plan to tour Woodland Cemetery will drive to 1082 Brown Street (Hickory Barbecue Restaurant) and turn left onto Woodland Avenue. The cemetery is located at 118 Woodland Ave.

Tour of Woodland Cemetery

At 1:30 p.m., meet the tour guide at the Eichelberger Plaza at the main entrance to the cemetery at 118 Woodland Ave. Woodland Cemetery is the final resting place of many of our nation’s most well-known inventors and innovators such as Orville and Wilbur Wright, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Erma Bombeck, to name a few. You may be surprised when you learn about many other persons of interest along the tour! Please plan to arrive at the cemetery prior to the 1:30 p.m. tour. The tour will last 60-90 minutes.

There is limited parking outside the main gate on Woodland Avenue and additional parking inside the main gate along both sides of the road. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear good walking shoes. You’re encouraged to bring a camera, binoculars and a bottle of water. You're welcome to bring a spouse or friend. Although the tour is free, donations are gladly accepted.
