The Bolinga Center is pleased to be joined by Wright State alumna and special guest Dr. Elaine Barringer ’91 & ’92 as she shares her experience as the first Black graduate of the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program. Dr. Barringer would go on to develop an accredited program at Chapman University in California for K–12 teaching in linguistically diverse classrooms, and earn another master’s degree in social work at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Barringer is not only proud of her experiences at Wright State, but believes that she was adequately prepared to pursue and earn her Ph.D. She is honored to virtually return to Raider Nation and offer insights to many others who will go on to become the first and make their own history.
