On Wednesday, March 22nd, 2015 from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wright State University will be hosting a campus-wide community service event and we would love to have your support! Volunteers from Wright State and the surrounding community will collaborate to make fleece-tie blankets for the non-profit organization Project Linus, which provides comfort to children in need through donations of handmade blankets. Since 1997, Project Linus has donated over 3.1 million blankets nationally. We hope that this year will be even more successful than before.

In the past, our volunteers have made and donated over 5,200 blankets to the Dayton area chapter of Project Linus. This has been an expensive endeavor, as one blanket costs between ten and eighteen dollars to make (depending on the current cost of fleece). We rely solely on fundraising efforts and the generous donations of individuals, like you, to be able to purchase enough fleece to keep our volunteers busy making blankets. Previous years, we have had over four hundred volunteers and made over 1,052 blankets!

We hope that you will consider making a monetary donation to Project Linus during the WSU Campus Scholarship & Innovation Campaign. Your donation will impact the lives of the Wright State community, as each volunteer will walk away from the experience having reaped the benefits of serving the community. All donation checks from individuals and businesses should be made payable to the WSU Foundation and forwarded to the attention of Pam Davis at the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs or make an online donation at: http://www.wright.edu/give/projectlinus.

We hope you will also consider participating in our event as a volunteer. Every person is able to help our efforts – it is an amazing service learning opportunity for individuals of any age or gender. No sewing skills are required. In fact, these blankets are made without any hint of needle and thread.

I look forward to working together with you to grow our Wright State University contribution to this worthy effort! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please email carper.10@wright.edu. I would be happy to provide you with any additional information you may need to reach a decision.

Hope to see you Wednesday, March 22nd, Student Union Atrium, 12-7pm!
