Throughout the 18th, 19th, and even into the 20th-century tens of thousands of Native children in the United States and Canada were stripped from their homes, communities, identity and families and brought to boarding and technical schools. These schools were specifically designed to strip indigenous students of their heritage and culture to "civilize and Christianize" them. Recent estimates have found that over 4,000 First Nations children died while attending these schools in Canada. While the true damages, in loss of life and culture can never be truly known these damages have certainly ravaged Indigenous communities.

The Association of Native American Students at Wright State University stands in solidarity with native communities across the United States and Canada in remembering the victims of this program. We will be hosting a fundraiser to raise funds for Wright State University's Native American Student Scholarship fund. Purchase a paper orange shirt for $1.00 to increase awareness about the tens of thousands of Indigenous children stolen from their homes. For each paper shirt purchased, you will be entered into a raffle to win an "every child matters" orange shirt. We encourage you to drop by and support Indigenous causes and students.
