“Real Women Have Curves”

This is the story of Ana (America Ferrera), a first generation Mexican-American teenager and her passage to womanhood. Although she wants to go away to college, she must battle against the views of her traditional, old-world parents, who think she should stay at home and provide for the family. Torn between her mainstream ambitions and her cultural heritage, she works with her mother (Lupe Ontiveros) in a sewing factory over the summer and learns some important lessons about life from a hardworking team of women who teach her solidarity and teamwork that help her make a decision about her future.  The film is directed by Patricia Cardoso and based on the play of the same name by Josefina López
