Goldwater Scholarship Deadline

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress to encourage a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue research careers in these fields. Approximately 300 awards are made nationally each year. Wright State students have been successful in previous competitions, including four Scholars and two Honorable Mentions since 1998.

Each Goldwater Scholarship covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500. Junior-level scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of two years of scholarship support, and senior-level scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of scholarship support. To be eligible, you:

·         Must currently be a sophomore or junior majoring in math, science, or engineering

·         Must be planning to pursue a PhD degree in one of these fields followed by a research career

o    Students intending a career in private medical practice are not eligible, but those who plan an MD/PhD program are encouraged to apply

·         Should be involved in a research project with a WSU faculty member or WPAFB personnel

·         Must be a U.S. citizen, a resident alien, or a U.S. national

·         Must be nominated by your undergraduate institution for this award
