Many individuals and groups have expressed the intent to attack the United States with biological weapons. In order to further their plans, these individuals have targeted laboratories, biotechnology companies, scientists, and students.  You’re invited to join this unique gathering of Biosecurity professionals for a hand-on, interactive full-day workshop.

The FBI Biosecurity Workshop will:

  • Increase awareness of potential biosecurity risks.
  • Identify methods used by individuals to acquire the information and skills they need for a successful attack.
  • Explain warning signs that may indicate targeting procedures.
  • Enable detection of institutional issues impacting biosecurity.
  • Promote the early reporting of suspicious activities.

WHO: Undergraduate, Graduate, Doctoral Biology Research students, Biology Department Faculty, Staff Researchers, Medical Students, Public Health agencies, Environmental Health and Safety Officers, University/Hospital Administration, Presidents Office personnel to include Legal and Media, Hospital Research staff, First Responders agencies and DOD Civil Support Team personnel.

WHAT:

08:00 - 12:00pm: Attendees will receive briefs on the biological security threat, University and Bio-Tech industry security concerns, local and regional response and laboratory capabilities.

12:00 - 1:00pm: WSU will be providing a working lunch for all attendees.

1:00 - 4:00pm: Attendees will participate in a series of Biosecurity focused table top exercises (TTXs). Attendees will be assigned to small breakout group to foster a more interactive discussion environment. Following these short TTXs, attendees will reconvene in the main meeting room and be able to engage with a selected Biosecurity panel to discuss TTX findings, outcomes and issues.

PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE: FBI Cincinnati Weapons of Mass Destruction Program, FBIHQ, WMD Directorate, Biological Countermeasures Unit , Ohio Dept. of Health Lab, Regional Public Health, Battelle, Wright State University, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine
