Course Equivalency and Prior Learning Assessment for Military Training and Occupations

Led by Carl Brun, Academic Affairs, Dr. Sherrill Smith, Associate Dean, College of Nursing and Health, Melissa DeButz, Transfer and Veterans Student Recruiter, Student Transfer Resource Center and             Amanda Watkins, Associate Director, Veterans Military Center.  This presentation will cover the requirements of Ohio HB 488 related to assessment of military training and occupations for college/university credit.  We will discuss evaluation of military credit within the context of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA).  We will use examples of using American Council on Education (ACE) evaluations of Joint Service Transcripts (JST) to award general and specific course credit.  We will give examples of departments that are awarding course equivalencies and PLA for military experiences.
