Wright State University's Asian and Native American Center cordially invites you to attend our upcoming Lunar New Year celebration, the “Year of the Rooster.”

The celebration will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Student Union Apollo Room, Wright State University.

We are very excited to bring to campus the International Brotherhood of Magicians Competition finalist award-winner, Ms. Ying Li, the magician, and Mr. Chengdu Li, the Bian Lian or Face Changer, who will perform the thousand year old Chinese Face changing at the Lunar New Year.  Mr. Li will change from one colorful face to another almost instantaneously with a movement of the head, or a wave of the hand.  The entertainment program will begin promptly at 12 noon and the show consists of the following acts:

·        Magic Face Changing

·        Performances by students from local school districts

·        Magic Show:

-               Fish in the wine glass

-               Water and Fire (conjuring strings from burning paper to produce snow from putting the strings in a cup of water to generate signs like Happy New Year)

-               Mystery of Red Wine (pouring plain water into newspaper and then conjuring red wine)

-               Six Circles (connecting six circles and then breaking them apart)

-               Flying Roses (using napkins to make roses and making them fly)

-               Disappearing Poker Cards (conjuring cards out of nowhere)

-               Magic of scarves and many more…

-               The audience will be invited to come on stage to perform some magic tricks with Ms. Li.

Additionally, the celebration offers games, Chinese calligraphy, fortune telling, caricature artist, balloon artist, face painting artist, music, numerous hands-on arts and crafts, along with a souvenir booth with unique Oriental items and a traditional Vietnamese flower market. You can also take pictures in Chinese and Vietnamese traditional costumes in front of The Great Wall and Vietnamese New Year Marketplace backdrops.

At this event, participants will have an opportunity to win a prize if they successfully answer cultural questions relating to Chinese New Year and Vietnamese TET celebrations.

Special Chinese New Year foods are available for purchase at the cost of $6.00 per person from TSAO’s Cuisine.  The menu consists of Noodles with sesame seed and a little green onion & oil, General Tsao’s Chicken with broccoli, Sweet & Sour Tofu (Vegetarian Option), and Pan Fried Vegetable Dumpling.
