Cameos of Caring

Mercy Memorial Hospital—Amanda Brannon

Recognition Year:
2015

Amanda Brannon has been a Registered Nurse for 11 years and has worked for Mercy Memorial Hospital for the past four years, most of the time in a leadership role. She is currently the Nurse Supervisor in the Emergency Department. She brings a sense of calm to times of chaos so that all patient and family member needs are addressed.  She calls every patient by name and provides privacy for any interaction with the patient, recognizing that patients are at their most vulnerable moments while in the hospital. For instance, she had an elderly dementia patient who was extremely scared and confused. The patient begged not to be left alone. Despite the hustle and bustle of the busy emergency department, Amanda took the time to comfort this patient and tend to all her other duties. Amanda pulled a “computer on wheels” outside the patient’s door and continued to do her charting and while comforting the patient with her presence. During a code in the emergency department, Amanda ensured that each family member understood what was going on with his/her loved one and continued to provide the vital care needed to resuscitate the patient. Amanda graduated from the Hocking College School of Nursing and is currently pursuing her BSN at Ohio University.
