Cameos of Caring

Kettering Medical Center—Daniel Thomas

Recognition Year:
2015

Daniel Thomas has been a Registered Nurse for 13 years and has worked all those years in the Kettering Medical Health Network. He is currently a Staff Nurse in Unit 5 East, The Kettering Joint Center. Dan provides great care to his patients, and they frequently report how much they appreciate his caring manner, his kindness, his attentiveness, and his attention to detail in providing education. Currently, he collaborates with a nurse researcher to look at the efficacy of using Tylenol as adjunct medication for post-op pain management in the total joint population. Highly regarded by his peers, Dan is considered a clinical expert with whom they can consult regarding difficult patient and care issues. Dan treats his team as his family members. He will come into the unit when there are additional staffing needs and will trade shifts to accommodate his peers. When a staff member is out on medical leave, Dan will send a gift basket to lift his/her spirits or offer to assist financially. Rarely a day goes by without Dan bringing snacks and “goodies” to his unit team to celebrate achievements and support them through difficult times. Dan earned his associate degree in nursing from Sinclair Community College and his BSN from Jacksonville State University. He is the first recipient of the Daisy Award from his unit.
