Cameos of Caring

Kari Roberts - Dayton Children’s Hospital

Dayton Children’s Hospital
Recognition Year:
2018

Kari Roberts wears many hats in the hematology/oncology department at Dayton Children’s Hospital, and she wears them well. As a nurse coordinator, she collaborates not only with departments and providers at DCH, but also with Cincinnati, Nationwide, and Miami Valley Hospital. Kari has been an innovator, helping to create a fertility preservation program for both male and female patients through collaboration with fertility specialists at Miami Valley. She educates patients, families, peers, and providers regarding fertility preservation and advocates when necessary in order to provide fertility opportunities for patients in the future. Her compassion for the patients and families is seen in her efforts to provide safe, family-centered care. But she credits her co-workers for modeling that compassion. “I was watching these nurses take care of all of these patients, and take care of their family’s needs; and I thought, ‘How do they even come up with this kind of stuff to do? This extra above-and-beyond’? But there’s stuff like that every day at Children’s,” she says. “They make you want to do extra and look for the extra—find how to make the difference for everybody.”
