Cameos of Caring

Grandview Medical Center—Robert Hemmelgarn

Recognition Year:
2015

A Registered Nurse for 24 years, Robert has worked all those years at Grandview Medical Center as the Charge Nurse in the 6100 Medical-Surgical Unit. As the charge nurse, Robert is instrumental in the “on-boarding” of new hires, including the nurse manager. His calm demeanor is appreciated by all in his unit. He has demonstrated that he is always available for his patients, co-workers, and physicians. Before he leaves each day, he checks with everyone to ensure they are ready for the end of shift. Robert’s clinical ladder project, “Mock Chest Pain Drill,” improved the skills and knowledge of Unit 6100 nurses and helped to identify an intradepartmental area for improvement in this process. Robert earned his associate degree in nursing from Sinclair Community College and is currently enrolled in the BSN program at Ohio University. He is certified as a Medical-Surgical Nurse. He was given the President’s Award by Grandview Hospital in 2007 and has also been nominated for the Ohio Hospital Association’s Nurse of the Year Award.
