Research |
Christopher Barton joined as a Professor at Wright State University since June 2004. His principal research interest is statistical quantification of complex patterns created by earth processes. He was a senior research scientist and project chief at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from 1984 to May 2004. He has worked on developing a new mathematical approach for predicting the size and number of undiscovered recoverable hydrocarbon reservoirs, and for predicting the size and number of hurricanes that will make landfall along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. With colleagues from Cornell University, Professor Barton has developed and applied a new mathematical technique for forecasting river flooding. Professor Barton is the author of more than 60 published research papers and is the senior editor of two books and the international journal, Fractals. He is currently writing a book entitled “Probability and Risk in a Nonlinear World.” |
