Topics include the foundations of society, theories of justice and rights, the concept of property, and the defense and critique of liberalism, democracy, socialism, and libertarianism. Readings may include Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Rousseau, Smith, Mill, Marx, Nozick, Rawls, and Nussbaum.
