Faculty Award Winners
The CTL saluted the following award winners at a Faculty Teaching Awards Luncheon April 11, 2008.
CTL Awards
Candace Cherrington
Dr. Cherrington’s success in teaching interactive video-based classes led her to being the first recipient of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s award for Outstanding IVDL Teacher. Dr. Cherrington’s efforts to teach interactive courses revealed her success in integrating the in-class IVDL technology with WebCT and in using technology to foster student involvement in class activities from both the face-to-face and virtual sites.
Jackie Collier
Dr. Collier’s success in teaching online classes led to her being the first recipient of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s award for Outstanding Online Distance Learning Teacher. In selecting Dr. Collier for this award the CTL recognized her desire to design distance education classes that offered flexibility to students without sacrificing quality or rigor. Not content to design a course once, her teaching reflects a thoughtful incorporation of the latest instructional technologies such as Elluminate Web conferencing and podcasting as a means to improve student learning. She also evidenced a commitment to improve her skills in teaching online courses through active participation in workshops such as Learner-Centered Teaching, Digital StoryTelling, and Designing for Significant Learning.
Sarah Twill
Dr. Twill was the recipient of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Faculty Development Award. This award was given to the faculty member who made significant efforts to improve his or her teaching. The award reflects a belief that good teaching is always a work-in-progress and that the best teachers are those who dedicate time and effort to learn about the latest theory and practice in good teaching. In reviewing those we have worked with at the Center for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Twill evidenced a dedication to faculty development that merits being the first recipient of this award from the Center. She attended a broad range of Center workshops, seminars, and book groups. In those events, she was an active participant and integrated what she learned into her teaching.
