CREC offers several recreational options within the Student Union. See the appropriate destination below for more information on each of these areas.

CREC Facility hours vary from quarter to quarter and during holidays and breaks. For an overall listing of current CREC Facility hours, as well as special dates and closings, see the current CREC Calendar.

Fitness Center

The Fitness Center, one of CREC's primary facilities, is located in the lower level of the Student Union. It features a wide variety of options available to fit anyone's recreational and exercise needs. It features state-of-the-art equipment and features enough space to accomodate all kinds of different activities. This facility requires membership - see Membership Information for more details.

The CREC Fitness Center boasts many types of equipment, including, not not limited to:
  • Cardio Equipment (arc trainers, elliptical trainers, treadmills, stationary bikes, etc.)
  • Plate-loaded and Selectorized Equipment
  • Free Weights

Locker Rooms

General and reserve lockers are available for men and women in the Student Union Recreation Center. Lockers can be rented at the Recreation Desk on a first come, first serve basis. See below for current rental rates and policies.

For the convenience of our patrons, all locker rooms are equipped with lockers with storage capacities ranging from medium to large.

Swimming Pool

The Student Union Swimming Pool is located on the lower level of the Student Union in room 088. The pool requires membership and may be accessed by checking in at the Rec Desk at 068 Student Union with a valid Wright1 Card. The only aquatic facility on campus, this facility is home to the University swim team, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, rec fit water classes, open swim, and intramural sports.

The CREC Swimming Pool features the following:
  • Six 25 yard lanes
  • Available for open swim - see the CREC Calendar for availability and special closings
  • Limited time available to special campus group activities ($15 per hour, per lifeguard)
  • Lifeguards on duty at all times

Wright State Swimming School:

  • This is a competency-based swimming instruction program for children 4years to 8th grade. Classes are supervised by Wright State swim coaches and taught by members of the Wright State team.

Please note that the diving well is closed from 3:00pm to 6:00pm every Sunday.

Gymnasium

The Student Union gym is located on the lower level of the Student Union past the Climbing Wall and Outdoor Resource Center. The only gym on main campus, this facility is used for open recreation, adapted recreation programming, sports club activities and special events. The standard configuration for this space is one large basketball or one large volleyball court, however, it can be divided into two smaller courts.

Registered student organizations are able to reserve the gymnasium on a first come, first serve basis by filling out a facility reservation request form at the Recreation Desk.

Squash Courts

Racquetball and squash court reservations can be made by stopping in or calling the Rec Desk at 937-775-5505. These reservations can only be made 24 hours in advance, with the exception that Monday reservations can be made on Friday. Each patron can only reserve two one-hour time slots per day under two different last names. Please have your UID on hand, as the Rec Desk staff will ask you for it and also your telephone number at the time of reservation. We have three courts available at a first come, first serve basis.

Our Racquetball/Squash area features:

  • 3 modern courts available for use
  • One hour usage intervals

Studios

The office of Campus Recreation features three group exercise studios (A, B, and C) within its Student Union facility. Although Rec Fit classes are the primary users of the studios, registered student organizations are able to reserve the studios on a first come, first serve basis by filling out a facility reservation request form at the Recreation Desk.

Each CREC Studio features the following:

  • A collective 5,000 sq. ft. of fitness space
  • Hardwood floors
  • On-site sound system
  • Fitness equipment for training

Rec Commons

Located off of the atrium on the lower level of the Student Union, this space provides a relaxing atmosphere for students to unwind with passive recreational opportunities.  These include playing billiards, table tennis and foosball.  Comfortable seating and study tables surround a 72” flat screen television.  Wireless internet and two computer access points are also available for students wishing to check email or surf the web.

Students wishing to play billiards should bring their Wright One card to the Recreation Desk.  Once they check in, the staff will issue the necessary equipment.  Players will be charged a nominal fee of $1.50 per half hour that will be paid when the equipment is returned.  Payment must be either cash, check or credit card.  No flex dollars will be accepted.

Students wishing to play table tennis should bring their Wright One card to the Recreation Desk.  At check in they will be given paddles for play at no charge.  Table tennis balls are available for $.25 and are yours to keep.  Once players are finished with the paddles, they must be returned to the Recreation Desk

Rec Desk

The Student Union Recreation Desk is the primary service point for all of your recreation facility needs. CREC members must present their valid Wright1 Card at the recreation desk to access facilities. The "Rec Desk" is located on the lower level of the Student Union in the Office of Campus Recreation (092 Student Union).
