Melissa Brown
After being introduced to yoga in September of 2005, Melissa found it to be her calling in life and decided to tread the path of yoga. It has since become an integral part of her life. In the spring of 2006, she completed the ?akti Yoga Teacher’s Training Course receiving her teaching certificate at the 200-hour level and becoming a nationally registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. Since then, she has taught at a yoga studio, gaining more experience, and now teaches WSU’s Rec Fit yoga classes as well. After October of 2006, Melissa will be nationally certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga, receiving the training from David Swenson. She hopes to further her teaching education at the 500-hour level next fall, and currently studies yoga with Ranjani and Leon Lim, practicing asana, pranayama, and meditation daily. Melissa loves to teach and help people feel good about themselves, feeling as though it has always been her passion. She believes that yoga has something to offer for everyone, and enjoys helping people find that purpose it could potentially serve in their lives.

I came to Wright State University in 1993 from Youngstown, Ohio. In 1998, I graduated with my B.F.A. in Dance and taught at a local dance school for several years. In 2000, I returned to the University to work in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I soon became involved in the REC FIT classes and fell in love with Cycle Fit. After participating for two years, I was asked to become an instructor and in 2003 took my SPINNING certification. I have been teaching ever since. Along with cycle fit, I have taught Core and Calm, Ballet Sculpt, All that Jazz and assisted in Water Aerobics. I look forward to another exciting year and hope to help everyone reach their personal goals. "We find in life exactly what we put into it." Emerson

Hi! My name is Melissa and I am excited to be a part of the Rec Fit team! I have been a fitness instructor since 2004 and I love it! My specialty is strength training and I have recently gotten into cycling. I love to mix up my routines and try new things which I hope you all enjoy as well. I am a certified group fitness instructor through AFAA and have been since 2005. In my classes I try not to make it feel quite so much like work by adding a touch of humor and fun to them. If you're not having fun then chances are you won't keep coming, right? I hope that you join me soon for a great workout. At Campus Rec – we're bringing sweaty back!!!!!!

Andrew Lai
Andrew Lai has been a professor at Wright State University for over 30 years. He is currently the interim chair of the department of Information Systems and Operations Management as well as the director of the China MBA program. In his spare time, he enjoys instructing the Tai Chi class that meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00.
Dr. Lai was first introduced to Tai Chi when he took a small group of Wright State students to China in 1986 with the China Ambassador program. Two of these students expressed in interest in the ancient art, so Dr. Lai arranged for a professor of Tai Chi from Beijing Normal University to instruct the students. Unfortunately, the language barrier presented an issue, thus Dr. Lai needed to participate in the class as a translator.
Upon returning to the US , Lai approached his father, who became a Tai Chi master under the direction of Cheng Man-Ch'ing. He immediately criticized his form and posture. With this new guidance from his father, Dr. Lai was better able to hone his Tai Chi skills.
In 1997, the late president of Wright State University , Dr. Harley Flack, utilized the expertise of Dr. Lai and his father in order to alleviate his back ailments. Tai Chi is often recommended by doctors as a way to improve health and wellbeing.
Lai himself has benefited greatly from Tai Chi over the years. As a boy, he endured a back injury that left him with back problems. He also suffered from chronic insomnia. Since exploring the art of Tai Chi, Lai has recovered from both ailments.
Despite all of his years of practice, Dr. Lai does not feel that he can do Tai Chi justice. While he has not reached the master status, he takes pride in being an avid Tai Chi enthusiast. After retirement, Lai would like to spend his time promoting Tai Chi and possibly open a Tai Chi institute dedicated to promoting health via diet and exercise.
