Dean's Circle
To learn more about concerns of undergraduate students in the college, in 2008, Dean Wheatly established a new student advisory board called the Dean’s Circle. Consisting of 12 undergraduate students who, together, represent the College’s six comprehensive departments: biological sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, mathematics and statistics, physics, and psychology. The Dean’s Circle will meet with the Dean once a quarter to discuss college-related issues that are high on the minds of CoSM students.
In addition to their major, the members of the Dean’s Circle were selected based on their interest, academic achievement, and leadership skills. Assistant Dean Joyce Howes serves as the group’s advisor.
Some special students from Wright State Unversity's College of Science and Mathematics (CoSM) were on hand to meet with prospective students and parents and answer questions about the CoSM program.

The College of Science and Mathematics Dean's Circle is currently seeking applications from enthusiastic students who share Dean Yi Li's commitment to growing the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) pipeline, enhancing student success by improving the undergraduate experience, advancing our ambitious research agenda, and sharing our many successes with the Wright State communities, for a two-year term beginning Fall semester 2012.
Interested students should submit the application (PDF) to the CoSM Student Services Office: 106 Oelman Hall or send application as email attachment to Joyce Howes, Assistant Dean at cosm@wright.edu no later than Friday, April 20, 2012.

Kelly Conti:
- Chair
My name is Kelly Conti. I am a junior Biological Sciences major with an Exercise Science concentration. As an undergraduate, I work on research in nuclear speckle proteins in Dr. Paula Bubulya's lab. In my free time, I work in the Biology Department, coach gymnastics and volunteer around the community. I plan to apply to medical school next summer. Hopefully I'll get accepted!
Kent Weaver:
- Co-Chair and CoSM Student Senator
I am currently pursuing a dual major in both Chemistry and Engineering Physics. Upon completion of my undergraduate degrees I intend to study Physics in graduate school. As an undergraduate, I work in both an academic lab and a government research lab. Both labs are involved in nanotechnology research, a field that has only recently become a focus for many scientists and industries alike. I enjoy research very much and look forward to my future career in a research field.
Kara Bobka:
My name is Kara Bobka and I am a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences with an Exercise Science/Pre-Medicine concentration. Currently, I am a member of the College of Science and Mathematics Dean's Circle and secretary of the Golden Key International Honour Society. My goal is to get accepted in medical school, where I will focus on becoming a neonatologist (one who studies infants in an intensive care setting). I hope this quarter is going well for you!
Alyxis Camden:
My name is Alyxis Camden and I am a sophomore majoring in Mathematics and Physics with concentrations in education. My plan is to be licensed to teach both math and physics at the high school level. I am a member of the Society of Physics Students, Student Honors Association, and an instructor for UVC 101, a freshmen seminar class. I enjoy learning and I am look forward to a career in education!
Amanda Dahlman:
My name is Amanda Dahlman and I am a junior majoring in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. Currently I am working as a research assistant at WPAFB in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate with a focus on amorphous metals. This school year I will serve as vice president of the Society of Physics Students. I volunteer at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. During my free time, I enjoy running and watching independent films. Right now, I am undecided about my post-undergraduate plans. Some possibilities include: research on renewable energy, teaching physics at the collegiate level, or working in public relations to communicate a company's scientific ideas and products.
Gina Pottkotter:
Hey everyone! My name is Gina Pottkotter and I am currently a senior majoring in Exercise Biology with a minor in Spanish. I am also in the Honors program. After graduation in the spring, I plan to attend graduate school and get my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. I am also involved in several different on-campus organizations. I am the President of RCA, a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, and of course, the College of Science and Mathematics Dean's Circle. I encourage all students to become more involved in campus life because I know what a great opportunity it is and how it has personally changed my life. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or let me know how I can make your time here at Wright State better. Good luck and have a wonderful year!
