GRADE 7 - Steps of Science Project where Content Standards are used

WHERE TO IMPLEMENT

HOW TO USE IN THE
SCIENCE PROJECT

CONTENT STANDARD

ADAPTING TO MEET EVERY
CHILD'S NEEDS

Stating a hypothesis

1. Students will meet this standard by formulating their hypothesis about their project. When students generate their topic ideas they should have to list as many questions of why their project does what it does.

1. Formulate and identify questions to guide scientific investigations that connect to science concepts and can be answered through scientific investigations.

Assist students to pick a topic on their level.

Collecting and organizing data

2. Explain what independent variables and dependant variables are. Have the students identify what the independent variables and dependent variables are in their project. Ask students what variable they did not change throughout their projects.

2. Explain that variables and controls can affect the results of an investigation and that ideally one variable should be tested at a time; however it is not always possible to control all variables.

Point out the independent and dependent variables for some students instead of having them find it on their own.

3. Identify what the independent and dependent variables are in their projects. Have each student share with the class. Give examples of simple independent/ dependent variables.

3. Identify simple independent and dependent variables.

Students can work in groups by sharing what variables they have.

4. Students will have to list every type of tool they use in their project in there in the collecting and organizing data stage of the project and when they identify the problem.

4. Choose the appropriate tools and instruments and use relevant safety procedures to investigations.

Give students a sample handout on how to organize one's data. Take a science experiment and show the class how to correctly organize one's data.
