Alyssa Tobe

Tobe

At the beginning of the summer, I started my didactic classes in clinical laboratory science. This consisted of three hours of lecture in the morning and three hours of lab in the afternoon. All of this time is focused on one subject for a set amount of days. The program covers courses in phlebotomy, chemistry, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, blood banking, and hematology.

Towards the middle of October, I finished my didactic classes and started my clinical rotations at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. I am in the hospital laboratory Monday through Thursday for eight hours a day and have advanced lectures Fridays from 9:00am until 4:00pm focusing on two courses. I really enjoy the hands-on experience at the hospital and it is also nice to get out of the classroom for a few days. Since I was accepted into medical school through the Early Assurance Program, I took the MCAT in May and also submitted my Early Decision Application this summer. In addition to this application I have been studying to keep my grades high and trying to volunteer whenever I get a chance.

The CLS program has been very beneficial thus far, and I can't wait to begin medical school next summer. I am also very excited to be part of the peer-mentor program and hope that I can answer any questions that come my way.
