This past summer has been a crazy, but exciting summer. After receiving my MCAT scores in early June, I finished up and submitted my AMCAS application. My AMCAS did not take very long to be processed, since I submitted it relatively early. An important part of the AMCAS application is the personal statement, and for most people, it is one of the hardest parts of the medical school application process. This was definitely my hardest part of the application. A great personal statement can definitely make a difference in your application, so putting in the necessary time to perfect it is really worth it. I started writing my personal statement several months before I applied. This allowed me to write a little, and then leave it alone for a while, and then come back and write some more. Once it was finally done, it was a huge relief!
I decided that I wanted to apply to Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine through the Early Decision program since I absolutely loved the medical school. I knew that if I was accepted to any other medical school and Wright State, that I would always choose Wright State. Therefore, I decided to put all my eggs in one basket and go for Early Decision. Early Decision is nice because they let you know if you have been accepted or not by October 1st, which allows you to apply to other schools if you have not been accepted.
I interviewed in early September, and I thought it went pretty well. I later found out that I was accepted. It was a huge relief because I was so nervous about the whole process. I feel lucky and excited to be attending Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine next year! So, my plans for rest of the school year are to finish up my biology degree and to also take some classes to better prepare me for next year.
