Participated in a recruitment fair as a representative for both the BMS and ES Ph.D. programs.  The fair targeted Ohio Wesleyan undergraduates who were interested in graduate programs.

 

Hosted representatives from Battelle Memorial Institute (Columbus, OH) to give a seminar to graduate students about opportunities in contract research.  About 10 students attended, and as a direct consequence one of them (Michael Lore) ended up getting a job with Battelle upon graduation.

 

Dr. Stireman

His research (PNAS paper) featured by several media organizations and mention of it appeared online, in print, and/or on the radio in: The New York Times, National Geographic, Scientific American, Science online, Science and Development online, and the BBC

John Stireman aided with training of local Middle School (Piqua) students in the Science Olympiad

 

John Stireman participated in education about insect diversity through the Earthwatch foundation

 

Dr. Van’t Hof

Was widely quoted by media, national and international, regarding the potential for spread of bird flu via migrating wild birds.

Coordinated, supported and participated: “Take Our Daughters to Work Day” workshop;  Science Fair 101; Tech Fest.

Biology Club: Activities include “academic” meetings (e.g., presentations from faculty and others on various topics, such as department research, bioinformatics, or forensic biotechnology), service activities (e.g. promoting recycling, maintaining trails), and “exploration” (e.g. trips to Cincinnati Zoo).
