Local, national, or international awards given to the faculty member and staff or students

Awards to Faculty

The prestigious " Sembrador" Award, that symbolizes the sowing of knowledge among one's disciples, was presented to Dr. Julian Gomez-Cambronero, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Wright State University, Dayton, OH, has been awarded the prestigious " Sembrador" Award by his hometown in Spain, Manzanares, a city in Castilla-La Mancha, the land of don Quijote. The award was presented at the Winter Courtyard of the 13th century Castle " Pilas Bonas" of the Order of Calatrava. The Award was originally established in 1985 by the city's news magazine " Siembra" , to be given annually to those men and women born on, or associated with, the city of Manzanares, who have demonstrated the highest achievements in the arts, humanities or the learned professions and whose accomplishments have transcended beyond the local frontiers, nationally or internationally. In the words of the Journal's director, Ms. Isabel Romera, " Dr. Gomez-Cambronero is being recognized for his outstanding academic merits and his leadership in inflammatory and leukemia biomedical research in the U.S. He is the first scientist in our city to receive the award that is traditionally given to orchestra composers, choral directors, poets, playwrights, historians, painters, sculptors and doctors. He has proudly taken the name of our city far beyond Manzanares and across the Atlantic Ocean" .
