Special Events

Varandani Memorial Lecture: Nobel Laureate, Dr. Phillip Sharp was the invited speaker for the 2003 Varandani Memorial Lecture. Dr. Sharp is Institute Professor and Director of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Research Highlights

BMB faculty are involved in the multi-institutional Biomedical Research Technology Transfer Consortium (BRTTC) project and join others from WSU, the Genomics Research Institute at the University of Cincinnati, and WPAFB in this collaborative venture. The commercial partner is Procter and Gamble, Inc. BRTTC will be funded by Ohio’s share of the National Tobacco Settlement, and some of this funding will provide a new home for our Gene Expression Laboratory led by Dr. Steven Berberich and Dr. Madhavi Kadakia.

Dr. Nicholas Reo was awarded funds from the Department of Defense, the State of Ohio Board of Regents Action Fund, and Wright State University for the purchase of a new 600 Megahertz NMR Spectrometer which was installed at the WSU Magnetic Resonance Laboratory at the Cox Institute. The magnet operates at 14.1 Tesla and will provide high-resolution NMR spectra for chemical analyses of biological samples.

Faculty Highlights

Last year, the faculty gave 22 invited presentations/seminars, 3 of these were international talks. Faculty also attended 33 scientific meetings during the year, 5 of which were international meetings.
