What can you do with psychology degree? If I had a dollar for every time I heard that question…. The short answer to this question is ‘become a psychologist!’ To pursue this career path however you must be prepared to continue your education after earning a bachelor’s degree. Psychologists earn doctorate degrees (either a Psy.D. or Ph.D.) requiring schooling of at least 5 years beyond the undergraduate degree. You can also pursue careers in psychology that require a master’s degree with as little as 2 additional years of schooling beyond the bachelor’s degree. But what if you intend to stop at the bachelor’s degree? What options are available to you? The answer to this question is many!
A variety of careers and jobs that are related to psychology are available to college graduates with only a bachelor’s degree. However the challenge for those searching for work is choosing among the many and varied options. With so many choices, the process of narrowing down and deciding which ones are right for you can be frustrating. To help guide students through this process, the advisors in the PUP office are standing by to offer valuable career counseling. Whether your interests are related to mental health, business, education, law enforcement, or public service, the trained advisors in the PUP office can help you link your education in psychology with a variety of career opportunities.
For those of you interested in becoming a psychologist, be sure to speak to one of our advisors on the steps you need to take to prepare for graduate school. You’ll also want to attend one of our “G.R.E. Boot-Camps” to get the latest tips on preparing for the Graduate Record Examination. Want a way to specialize your undergraduate degree? Consider one of our concentrations in Behavioral Neuroscience, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or Cognition and Perception.
